The Student Assessment Guide and Learning Plan describes the evidence required to be competent in this unit.
You can track your progress by comparing it against the unit requirements and at every stage of your learning and study and you can get support from your iTAFE mentor and advisor.
The Student Assessment Guide for the unit is located on the second green tile on the unit webmix or by clicking here, don't forget to acknowledge that you have read and understood from the Home page of this blog.
Study Guide
There are many ways that you might choose to make your way through the unit. The diagram and suggested sessions (below) will help to plan your learning through the Provide advice on Australian destinations unit. The sessions outlined below are a suggestion only - you may have another way that you prefer to study.
Session 1 – Where to
look: Pink Tiles
This topic explores where to
look for destination information which is current and accurate. You may like to think about the following:
Q1 – Make a list of where you could find sources of information on
Australian destinations.
Q2 – We often talk about providing current, relevant and accurate
information to clients. Discuss why this is important.
Q3 – Discuss
the difference between formal and informal research providing an example of
each.
Session 2 – Practical
component – Introduction
The practical component sessions
will provide the learner with the opportunity to interact with each other in
order to meet assessment evidence requirements. This session will explain
sessions 4 and 6 which is an open format where the learner will be able to
participate by asking questions and receiving feedback as well as present
destination information.
Session 3 – Types of
Information: Aqua Tiles
In this topic we will explore
the types of information that customers want to and need to know about a
destination. You may like to think about
the following:
Q1 – Think about the last travel experience you had.
a)
What type of information did you already know
about the destination?
b) What
type of information did you identify that you needed to find out about the
destination?
c) How
did you go about finding out about the missing information?
Q2 – The ability to seek and
provide feedback is important practice working in the tourism industry. Post 2
questions in this discussion forum regarding destination questions that you
need answers to and provide feedback on 2 of your colleague’s questions. Remember
this could be a colleague/friend asking very informally so it’s OK to go off
personal experience here when answering questions, of course if you’ve used a
source you should provide the details.
E.g. If I had one afternoon/night
to explore Sydney, what 3 things would you recommend I do?
E.g. If I had an international
visitor who wanted to see some Australian wildlife, where would you recommend
they visit?
Session 4 – Practical
component – Seek and provide feedback
Seeking and providing feedback
from others such as colleagues and customers is an integral part of staying
up-to-date with destination information. In this session you will have the
opportunity to communicate with your fellow learners to seek and provide
feedback on destinations within Australia.
Session 5 – Client
Needs: Yellow tiles
We need to
ensure we can match our destination information to our client needs, in this
topic we will look at identifying these needs through the use of scenarios. You may like to think about the following:
Q1 – Think
about questions you would normally ask someone wanting to travel, such as when,
how long etc…. how do these questions influence or make decisions on where
people travel to and why?
Q2 – A colleague has provided the following profile of a client;
identify what you would consider as the customer’s needs?
Three school
friends who want to go away to schoolies at the end of the year for about a
week and who live on the Gold Coast.
Q3 - Do you think the answer given to the question below is appropriate
scope and depth of information to meet the customer needs? Explain your answer.
Client: We are history buffs and would love to travel around exploring
a destination for about 10 days. Where would you recommend?
Consultant: Tasmania is great as it has a lot of historical sites you
could visit or stay at. You could take your own car or hire one.
Session 6 – Practical
component – Verbal summaries
It is an important skill to be
able to communicate your destination knowledge to customers and colleagues
verbally. In this session we will be sharing our destination information
knowledge with our fellow learners.
